Tips and best practices

Get more out of Speech Recognition Cloud with these practical tips.

Microphone tips

Use a USB headset or desktop mic

Built-in laptop mics work, but a dedicated USB microphone or headset gives noticeably better accuracy, especially in noisy environments.

Position matters

Keep your microphone 15-30cm from your mouth and slightly to the side. Avoid breathing directly into the mic.

Reduce background noise

Close windows, turn off fans, and mute notifications. A directional microphone helps reject background noise.

Dictation technique

Speak in full sentences

SRC uses full-sentence context for better accuracy. Speak naturally in complete thoughts rather than word by word.

Don't rush

A steady, natural pace gives the AI more context to work with. You don't need to speak slowly, but avoid racing through text.

Let the AI handle punctuation

SRC adds punctuation automatically. You don't need to say "comma" or "full stop" unless you want to override the AI.

Productivity features

Custom vocabulary

Add specialised terms, names, and jargon through the settings panel. This is especially useful for medical, legal, and technical terminology.

Templates

Create text templates that you can insert by voice command. Great for email signatures, standard paragraphs, and form responses. Available on Professional and Medical plans.

Voice commands

Use built-in voice commands to control formatting, navigation, and editing. Say "new line", "new paragraph", or "select all" while dictating.
